Double Dipping With Soft Tofu Recipes

The versatility of soft tofu is not to be underestimated! It can take all shapes and forms, but all are delicious. Tofu soup recipes, tofu baby foods, tofu desserts, and tofu dips can all be made using soft tofu as the main ingredient.  Tofu is an especially popular substitute in dips, where it can trim away unnecessary calories and fats. For a dip that’s sure to please taste buds and diets alike, try substituting soft tofu as a main ingredient.

A Scrumptious Substitution

Many of the ingredients that go into making various dips are not the healthiest of foods: cream cheese, mayonnaise, ranch dressing. However, the smooth texture of soft tofu and its lack of flavour allow it to take the place of these less-than-healthy ingredients, making the dip a much healthier choice.

Delicious Dips Made Healthy

Dips are delicious, but they also tend to be high in calories and in fat. Many times, a dip can have 30 or more calories per tablespoon—and few stop at just one tablespoon of dip. Using soft tofu recipes to make dips can make the dish healthier. For a Tex-Mex style dip, you will need: 1 package of soft tofu, well drained, and 1 package of taco seasoning mix.  For this simple soft tofu recipe, all you need to do is puree the tofu with the taco seasoning mix in either a food processor or a blender. Refrigerate the dip for about 20 minutes, and it is then ready to serve with tortilla chips or crackers.

Another way to make a popular dip healthy is by preparing guacamole using a soft tofu recipe. Though avocado, the main ingredient in guacamole, contains healthy fats, it is also fairly high in calories. To make a healthier version of guacamole, you will need: 1 package well drained soft tofu, 2-3 ripe and peeled avocados, 2 cloves finely minced garlic, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, ¼ chopped red onion, 2 small finely chopped tomatoes, ½ tsp. cumin, 2 tbsp. fresh chopped coriander, salt, and pepper.

First, blend the tofu, avocado, onion, garlic, cumin, and lemon juice in a blender or food processor. Once the mixture is creamy, move to a bowl and mix in the tomatoes and coriander. Sprinkle with salt and pepper; then refrigerate for at least half an hour. Remove from the refrigerator and serve with tortilla chips or crackers.

A Small But Admirable Step

Dips, dressings, and condiments are perhaps the hardest foods to live without on a diet or health kick. However, thanks to the versatility of soft tofu, you no longer have to live without them. You simply have to live with a healthier version. Now dips are no good if you don’t have anything to dip into them, so why not check out some of our products here to see if they are good for you!
